The local San Antonio housing market ended the first three months of the year posting some positive numbers. The challenge now is to push the bell curve further forward.
During the first three months of the year, construction began on 1,636 new single-family homes, according to the latest analysis by Houston-based Metrostudy, a leading housing research firm.
That figure marks a 10 percent increase from the 1,482 construction starts recorded over the same three months last year.
It is good sign that the local housing market is taking a turn for the better, says Jack Inselmann, vice president of the U.S. Central Division of Metrostudy.
“The forecast for the San Antonio (area) new-home market for 2012 was a 10 percent increase in starts over 2011,” he says. “And the results of the Metrostudy first-quarter survey show that we are off to a good start.”
For the first time in several years, building activity is outpacing buyer activity. Over the 12 months ended March 30, 2012, construction began on 7,033 new homes…..
